Amazing to think that when this case was being used George ii had just died, and George III was coming to the throne. Also, the Stamp Act was passed by the British parliament, requiring that many printed materials in the colonies be produced on stamped paper produced in London. The unpopularity of this Stamp Act, and other such taxes levied by the parliament ultimately would contribute to the start of the American revolution.

Of small proportions the undecorated silver body is beautifully smooth with centuries of handling. The push open front clasp and rear hinge work well. To the top securing loop, perhaps to be suspended from a chatelaine, is possibly a tiny hallmark, or poinçon mark. Inside are a pair of cut steel scissors that fit very snuggly.

Size: The case measures 3 1/8 tall (8 cm) by 1 1/4 inch (3.2cm) at its widest point.

Condition: Very good with minor evidence of age/wear. A small 1/16 inch scratch/ding to the reverse. The very dainty scissors are showing their age with rust/oxidization to the metal. Chips to the metal pointed tips. They fit very snuggly inside the case.

A very fine and rare example for the early sewing tool collector.
