These early stoneware pitchers were of the FINEST quality, manufactured by some of England's finest makers. Back then their use was so important, their strong stoneware allowed them to receive hot liquid as well as being able to safely store and pour wine, ale, milk and cream. The invention of a high gloss smear glaze that was applied to the interior allowed for no staining or seepage into the glaze. Today their original purpose is no longer required instead we can enjoy their quality craftsmanship and huge decorative appeal. Some we can even use to display flowers. The beautiful impressed publication mark to the base stating 'Published Nov 1841 by Jones \u0026amp; Walley COBRIDGE Good Samaritan 24'\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eFinely produced in a buff color stoneware by the Elijah Jones and Edward Walley partnership with a low pedestal foot and ornate scroll handle. The quality and diversity of scene in their jugs has very much attracted collectors over the years. Once you have one you will want more!!!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe pictoral scenes on this jug depicts the parable of The Good Samaritan as told by Jesus in the Gospel of Luke. The first scene shows the Priest and the Levite passing by the robbed traveller victim. The other side depicts the Good Samaritan aiding the robber's victim with his donkey standing by to take them to an inn. The jug is profusely covered in high relief scenes, which are to be marveled at. The moulding is SOOO crisp making each scene so very lifelike.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eSize: 6 3\/4 inch inch tall by 4 1\/2 at its widest.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eCondition: Very good.
