Dipping pens needed to be dipped into the inkwell as they did not have in built reservoirs for storing ink.

This is a gorgeous original 19th century example. The glass rod is so fine with its lattice cane work interior. It feels wonderfully delicate in one's hand and is not to be mistaken for later heavier, clumpier and cruder examples. The complex technique used to create the dip pen involved the glass maker heating two glass rods and then drawing them out using a rotating motion to create the classic spiralling 'latticino' effect. The spiraling white glass canes are so fine; the glass maker was clearly very talented. The dip pen also features coppery/gold aventurine type glass overlay above the nib and also under the crown. The top Crown design features teeny little applied turquoise glass jewels.

Measuring: Height 7 1/8 inch (18 cm), depth 0.25" (0.5 cm).

Condition: 1/8" flake missing near end of nib.
