The jug features a depiction of the popular maritime scene titled ‘The Sailor’s Farewell’ and ‘The Sailor’s Return.’\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e‘The Sailor’s Farewell’ features the sailor leaving his wife, we see him running to a small boat on the shoreline. ‘The Sailor’s Return’ features the same sailor returning to his worried wife, a large sailing ship can be seen on the horizon. This pitcher was made when most families had a relative at sea. This was a period in history when Great Britain, North America, Spain and France were involved in naval warfare. Being aboard ship was a dangerous occupation, if disease or your enemy didnt kill you, falling overboard might (most people did not swim in the 1700s)!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe jug is one of the smaller examples we have seen. We love the earthy pratt glazes in tones of, orange, blue, green and brown.
