This charming Staffordshire figure was made in England during the 19th century, circa 1870. This Victorian figure features a red and white spaniel type dog smoking a pipe, he is sat on a decorative base with a turquoise ground and rococo style raised detailing. Pipe smoking dogs are hard to find and highly sought after, they fall in the earlier end of the Victorian Staffordshire dog spectrum. Notice his separately moulded legs and how he is also hand coloured to the rear of the figure. As time went on this practice died out as the figures became simplified with plain backs for mass production.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThis is a charming figure with real presence, he is perfect for anyone who loves dogs and all things Staffordshire! Depth 3 ½ inch (9 cm).\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eCondition: Good but as is so, so common, the Pipe has been restored. The front of the base on the left and right edge has been restored. There are a few small patches of amateur restoration to the back of the figure. Natural crazing throughout, the occasional minor hairline and firing fault which is what you would expect on an early GENUINE Staffordshire figure.
