Item Description

We are so very excited to have discovered for you this exquisite quality 1700s enamel bonbonniere/snuff box. This enamel on copper box is formed as a ladies shoe and would have been made in the 1790s period in South Staffordshire, England. We see a cobalt blue ground with raised white enamel cartouches filled with hand painted floral sprays. The hinged lid opens to reveal a plain white enamel interior.

These very small enamel containers were used to store luxury candies and or snuff. The boxes with mirrors to their interiors were used to store patches.

This is a very, very good example offered in good condition.

Size: 1 1/2 inch ( 4 cm) tall by 3 1/2 inch (9 cm) long by 1 1/8 inch (3.3 cm) at its widest point.

Condition. Old owners label to inside of lid. A few minor hairlines to the enamel as is common with Georgian enamel items of this great age. Free of restoration.
