Item Description

This wonderful little engraving was produced during the 18th century, circa 1770. The engraving is on laid paper and features a portrait of The Countess du Barry. Housed in a later 1820 period papier mache frame.

Jeanne Bécu, Comtesse du Barry (b 1744 – d 1793) was the last maîtresse-en-titre of King Louis XV of France. She was executed by guillotine during the French Revolution on accusations of treason—particularly being suspected of assisting émigrés to flee from the Revolution. She is also known as ‘Mademoiselle Vaubernier’.
This is a gorgeous decorative, and historical engraving.
