19th Century Georgian Layette Pincushion Welcome Sweet Babe 1815

We are delighted to have discovered for you this wonderful regency era layette pincushion. Pincushions that were decorated with words and designs made from handmade pins were very popular gifts for pregnant and new mothers during the 18th and 19th centuries. Our example was wrought in England during the 19th century, in the year 1815. The pin cushion is produced on cream silk with a double striped muslin gusset and ruffle edging all around. To the top are the pin stuck words reading '1815, Welcome Sweet Babe'. Firmly stuffed with wool wadding.

This is the perfect item for anyone who loves all things Regency and sewing. This is a wonderful example that is perfect for the collector. It is amazing to think that this wonderful pin cushion was produced in the year of the Battle of Waterloo, incredible.

Measuring: Horizontal Width 8 inch (20.5 cm) by thickness 2 ½ inch (6.5 cm). Vertical Depth 6 inch (15 cm).

Condition: Very Good, lightest of surface wear commensurate with age.
