19th Century Miniature Cottage Print The Year After Marriage Newlywed C 1830
Item Description
This rare and decorative little hand coloured engraving was produced in England during the 19th century, circa 1830. The print is titled ‘The Year After Marriage’ and features a young lady seated next to her baby. The engraving is one of a pair, each sold separately. The remaining engraving is titled ‘The Day Before Marriage.’
The engravings feature the themes often found in engravings titled of Courtship and Matrimony. The humorous engravings are tongue in cheek. In courtship we see a young couple in love, in matrimony things have got rather stale!
In ‘The Day Before Marriage’ we see a young lady trying on her best clothes in a mirror. In ‘The Year After Marriage’ we see the same young lady only she now has a baby and her head in her hand. The pair were likely published by J. Fairburn.
The engravings is housed behind glass in its original stained wood frame. This is the perfect item for anyone who loves all things Cottagey or Georgian!
Measuring: Frame width 3 7/8 inch (9.5 cm) by height 4 7/8 inch (12.5 cm). Aperture width 2 ½ inch (6.5 cm) by height 3 ½ inch (9 cm).
Condition: Print has been trimmed to fit the frame, there is a slight gap between the paper and the frame. Light surface wear to frame. All commensurate with age.
