Item Description
We are delighted to have discovered this early Prattware pottery cradle. Dating from the 1800 to 1810 period it is decorated with distinctive green, yellow, and brown sponge underglaze enamels associated with Pratt ware pieces of this vast age. As mentioned in the reference book Pratt Ware by John and Griselda Lewis page 246 "These cradles were made in various sizes, sometimes empty and sometimes with a sleeping child modelled within". They were often created as wedding gifts symbolizing hopes for a future family or to celebrate a birth.
Size: 1 3/4 inch tall by 4 1/4 inch long by 1 3/4 inch at its widest point. (5 cm by 10 cm by 4 cm)
Condition: Great display condition. On close examination you will find three small areas of old professional restoration. A few teeny flea bites to hood of crib.
A superb pearlware example to add to any collection of early English pottery.
