Antique Religious Painting Madonna With The Blue Diadem After Raphael C 1840
Item Description
If you are looking for a stand out 19th century painting in the renaissance style for your interior, this Victorian painting is it. This quality watercolour painting was painted around the 1840 period. The painting depicts the Madonna with the Blue Diadem. We see the Virgin Mary lifting a veil from the sleeping Christ Child while the young Saint John the Baptist looks on in prayer. The painting is after an original piece by the celebrated high renaissance artist Raphael (Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino - b 1483 – d 1520).
The watercolour is on paper and is housed behind old glass in an ornate early Victorian gilt gesso frame with rococo ‘c’ scroll style decoration to the corners. The backing board features an old 20th century collectors label, however the piece as we have discovered is actually after Raphael not Luini.
This is a fantastic combination, a stunning painting and frame! This is the perfect artwork for anyone who loves renaissance art and has a passion for religious antiques.
