Item Description

This is a rare survivor that dates to the circa 1850s period. This was a period when tartan inspired furnishings, and all things Scottish were in favor. Queen Victoria and Prince Albert had purchased Balmoral Castle in Scotland as their country retreat and their joint love for Scotland inspired a world craze in Scottish themed goods.

This small rectangular box is constructed from wood and features the most wonderful blue tartan printed panels! The box opens via a paper hinge to reveal the inner storage compartment complete with its original green paper lining. The box is complete with its original cut steel carry handle, working lock and key. This is such a pretty box. Absolutely perfect for anyone who loves all things sewing!

Measuring: Width 6 ¼ inch (16 cm) by height 2 1/8 inch (5.5 cm). Height with handle extended 3 1/8 inch (8.5 cm). Depth 2 ¾ inch (7 cm).

Condition: General surface wear to paper panel coverings commensurate with age. The lock can be a bit sticky, it locks shut by turning the key to the left. It will be shipped unlocked, with key wrapped separately.
