Item Description

This charming little child’s plate was produced in England during the 19th century, circa 1828. The plate would have been produced for a child and features a wonderful raised floral border. The center of the plate features a humorous transfer printed scene depicting a little girl wearing glasses, smoking a pipe while reading a newspaper, clearly imitating her grandfather. The text reads ‘Our Early Days, Now I’m Grandfather’. At the bottom of the plate we fined the impressed mark reading ‘Scott 5’. This is the mark of Scott and Sons, Southwick Pottery, Sunderland.

Reference: Plate 138 and 141 in Gifts For Good Children by Noel Riley.

This plate will display excellently alongside any collection of 19th century pottery or any folk art inspired pieces. It is a rare piece with a sought after subject matter.

Measuring: Diameter 6.5 inch (16.5 cm).
