Antique Folk Art Painting Naïve School Portrait of A Boy William Allan 1842

This is a very appealing, all original 19th century portrait - it is a fabulous example of genuine 19th century folk art. The portrait was painted in the year 1842. The portrait features a small boy wearing a dress and can be seen holding his hat in one hand and a riding crop in the other. During the first half of the 19th century young boys wore dresses up until the age of 6, when they then wore breeches. The painting is housed behind old glass in its original wood veneered frame.

The back of the painting is signed by the previous owner/artist. The inscription reads ‘William Allan his likeness taken in August 10th 1842.’ William Allan would have been born circa 1836.

This is the perfect artwork for anyone who loves all things naïve, americana and folk art. An original painting from 1842.

Measuring: Frame width 8 ¼ inch (21 cm) by height 9 ½ inch (24.5 cm). Aperture width 4 5/8 inch (11.5 cm) by height 6 inch (15 cm).

Condition: Light surface wear to frame. A few areas of age-related darkening to paper, area of light to paper near sitter’s head....all easily evident in our many images.
