Antique Georgian Papier Mache Snuff Box Hand-Painted Trading Scene

We just adore these early hand painted papier mache snuff boxes. We think that there is a charm in the way that the early paint has aged to give this dreamy sunset colouring to these atmospheric landscapes.

The lid of this snuff depicts such a vision. We see mountain in the background with billowing clouds in the sky above. To the middle ground an industrious trading scene of a sailing boat leaving after unloading its cargo on the rocky shores of this Italian inlet. To the right we see a tower with pulley for loading/unloading with small stone store to the side.

Size: Diameter 3 1/2 inch (9 cm), height 5/8 inch (2 cm)

Condition: The Lid - A super aged patina. Very old missing flakes of paint the scene. Some old perfectly stable cracking around the circumference from 1 to 4 o'clock, clearly shown in images. Old stable crack to lid at 3 o'clock. The base - a 1 1/2 inch section of repair to one side. The lid sits on the base perfectly for display but will lift off easily and so please be careful when handling.
