Antique Georgian Watercolor Portrait Child Dog Puppy After William Lodder 1803

This incredible watercolour painting was painted in England in the year 1803 after a similar work by the 18th century artist W P J Lodder. The all original watercolour on paper features a young child holding a puppy alongside the puppy’s mother. It truly is a charming all original painting. The painting has been painted in tiny little brush strokes, similar in style to those used by the expert portrait miniaturists of the 18th and early 19th century. The painting is housed behind its original glass in its original frame complete with its original backing board and backing paper. The original label to the board reads:

‘W. P. J. Lodder, Delin. Infancy Freschi. Edward Orne Excudit, Copy, August 15th 1803’

William Philip James Lodder, Esq (b 1779 – d 1867) was a talented artist who was active during the early 19th century. He primarily painted portrait miniatures of fellow officers but did also paint several large oil paintings.

Andrea Freschi was a printmaker and publisher of his own work who was active during the late 18th/early 19th century. Edward Orne (b 1775 – d 1848) was a British engraver, painter and publisher of illustrated books who was active during the late 18th/early 19th century.

Measuring: Frame width 9 ¾ inch (24.5 cm) by height 12 1/5 inch (32 cm). Aperture width 5 ¾ inch (14 cm) by height 8 ½ inch (21.5 cm).

Condition: Everything is original and unopened. Minor dust & debris trapped below the glass, age related surface wear to frame.
