This is a unique and very quirky late Victorian wallet design samples case to hold the expensive top quality wood floor block samples of the British flooring firm of Charteris and Longleys. Charteris & Longleys sound liek a company from a Charles Dickens novel don't they. They were in fact Wood Block Flooring suppliers based at 31 & 32 King William Street, London. They were listed in the 1899 Academy Architecture directory under Wood Flooring and Paving. The building is still viewable in King William Street, London. It is a beautiful Italiante style building, that was built in 1707. It is now in the financial district of London.
The small black leather case has a white metal working slide button lock. The name and address and beautifully gilt tooled in to the leather. You slide the button down to reveal the original blue velvet lined interior.
Size: 3 ⅞ by 5 ½ by ⅞ ( 4 cm by 5.5 cm by 2.3 cm)
Condition: Very good and sound. Very minor rubbing to the leather at the edges and corners.
A superb quality Victorian case that has many display and storage uses. Portrait miniature are not included with this sale, for ambiance only.
