Antique Silhouette Full Length Cut Paper English Lady With Purse Reticule C 1835

This wonderfully decorative portrait silhouette was made in England around the year 1835. This full length cut paper silhouette features a young lady in the most incredible dress, just look at those typical 1830s 'Gigot' puffy sleeves! The lady can be seen holding a reticule, a reticule is a small handbag popular in the late 18th and early 19th centuries in which ladies used to carry essentials because their dresses lacked pockets.

The silhouette is on paper featuring a blind stamp for ‘Bristol Paper’ to the paper bottom right corner. The silhouette is inscribed in pencil ‘Born 1812’ and is housed behind original glass in its original frame. We have attributed the silhouette to William Seville.

Measuring: Frame width 9 inch (23 cm) by height 13 inch (33 cm). Aperture width 6 3/8 inch (16.5 cm) by height 10 ¼ inch (26 cm).

Condition: A few minor surface chips to veneer. Minor age related toning to paper.
