Antique Straw Work Box Dog Georgian Folk Art C 1820

We do love antiques that include dogs, therefore we couldn't pass by this cutie. This wonderful little miniature straw work box was made in France during the 19th century, circa 1820, possibly by a French prisoner of war. The straw work box features a dog to the lid made up of tiny pieces of cut straw, a straw version of a mosaic! Each of the sides also features a design made up of tiny pieces of cut straw. The craftsman who produced this was clearly so talented. We cannot imagine how long this took to make!

The lid opens to reveal the inner storage compartment complete with its original coral reef design paper. This is a charming little box that is perfect for anyone who loves dogs and folk art.

Measuring: Width 3 ¾ inch (9.5 cm) by height 1 3/8 inch (3.5 cm). Depth 1 7/8 inch (5 cm).

Condition: A lovely smooth patina from all of the hands that have touched it down the centuries. Light surface wear commensurate with age.
