James Cobbett (b 12 January 1804 – d 31 March 1842) was an English professional cricketer who played from 1826 to 1841 for Middlesex, Surrey, and Sheffield Cricket Club. According to The Cricketer and Wisden, he was said to be "the finest all-rounder of his day", Cobbett was a right-handed batsman, occasional wicket-keeper and right arm slow roundarm bowler. James is buried at Kensal Green Cemetery, North Kensington, Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.
The print was published by William Henry Goodburn Mason (b 1810 – d 1879), Repository of Arts, Brighton on May the 16th 1841 and engraved by Charles Hunt (b 1803 – d 1877). Charles Hunt was an Aquatint engraver and etcher of sporting prints. William Henry Goodburn Mason was a publisher and printseller, also carver and gilder; 'Printseller and Frame Maker by Appointment to Her Majesty', based in Brighton.

Measuring: Frame width 8 1/8 inch (20.5 cm) by height 9 ½ inch (24 cm). Aperture width 5 ½ inch (14 cm) by height 6 ¾ inch (17.5 cm).
Condition: Light surface wear commensurate with age.
