Item Description

This rare and decorative reverse painted print on glass was produced in England during the early 19th century, in the year 1800. The print is titled ‘Poetry’ and features a young lady set within an oval classical landscape with a dramatic draped garment, holding or reading a scroll/manuscript, framed by wooded scenery. We find the printers/publishers details listed below reading ‘Published June 4th 1800, by P. Stampa, No. 3, Dorrington Street, Leather Lane.’

The reverse painted Mezzotint on glass is housed in its original wooden frame, complete with its original backing board and top hanger. The original backing paper also remain, really is quite incredible. We have not seen another example pf 'Poetry' making this a rare print. You can see another P Stampa reverse mezzotint of An Emblem of America housed at Historic New England GUSN-18510

This the perfect artwork for anyone who loves poetry, anyone who loves the arts.
