Early 19th Century Staffordshire Figure Rural Pastime Lady Reading Ralph Wood C 1800
Item Description
This delightful Staffordshire figure was made in England during the 19th century, circa 1800. The figure features an idyllic scene with a man say on a rock playing a little drum. His wife can be seen next to him reading a book. The figure has been hand coloured; the colours are fantastic! The figure sits on a base with iron red hand painted script reading: ‘Rural Pastime.’
The figure was likely made by Ralph Wood, this is the perfect figure for anyone who loves early English ceramics. Please see our collection of 18th and 19th century art and antiques listed separately in our store.
Measuring: Width 4 ¾ inch (12 cm) by height 7 inch (17.5 cm).
Condition: Gentleman’s arm has been restored. Minor firing fault to his leg where it joins the waist. Minor area of restoration to their hats. A few minor chips, all commensurate with age.
