Georgian Miniature English Glass Scent Bottle Navette Shaped Engraved Initials MS Circa 1800 AF

This is one of three rare George III era scent flasks that we have been very lucky to acquire (see last image, each sold individually). They are from a single owner collection, they collected early 19th century glass scent bottles with initials from the 1780 to 1820 period. Small scent flasks were a necessity at this time as sanitation was generally poor, and to mask those nasty whiffs one could unstopper your handy scent flask to smell something a little more pleasant.

This wonderful little glass scene bottle was produced in England during the late 18th century/early 19th century. The glass scent bottle is of tear drop, or navette shape and features a hand etched owner’s original owner’s monogram reading ‘M. S.’ The scent bottle also features hand etched leaf detailing to the reverse. Such a high quality engraving, the scent bottle has such a lovely weight to it and feels superbly tactile in one's hand.

Measuring: Width 3 ¾ inch (9.5 cm). Depth 1 ¼ inch (3 cm).

Condition: Stopper is missing. Light surface wear. A large chip to bottom of base of scent bottle.
