Item Description
We are delighted to offer our early textile collector's this beautiful Georgian floral silk embroidery. Dating to the 1790 to 1800 period, this two-hundred-year-old embroidery is the perfect small size for your home interior. It came from an English manor house in Shropshire.
We see two vertical sprays of European flowers embroidered on a plain-woven silk ground. Their colours have faded to wonderfully muted shades that work beautifully with its wonderfully aged original frame.
The embroidery is housed behind old, bubbled glass in its original gilt Gesso beaded frame and is ready for display. The embroidery is one of a pair each sold separately in our store, one is slightly smaller than the other.
Please see our collection of 18th and 19th century art and antiques listed separately in our store.
Measuring: Frame width 9 1/4 inch (23.5 cm) by height 7 1/2 inch (19 cm). Aperture width 7 3/4 inch (19.5 cm) by height 6 inch (15 cm).
Condition. Original and unopened. Minor discoloration and undulation to the silk. Light surface wear to the frame commensurate with age.
