Miniature Beadwork Book Form Emery Pincushion C 1840

We are delighted to share with you this stunning quality little book form emery pincushion from the early Victorian period. Dating from the 1840s it is a delight to hold. We see a miniature book made from gilt tooled maroon leather with a fancy floral micro beadwork front cover. The pages of the book are the actually red silk pincushion area filled firmly with emery sand. 

Emery sand was a dark, very fine powdered sand that was dense in weight, it was used specifically to fill pincushions. By poking your needles and pins into the emery you would sharpen and clean your needles. 

Size: Just under 2 inch tall ( 4.8 cm)

Condition: Very good and sound, minor abrasion to the centre gilt tooled design on back cover. Approx 6 micro beads lost from corners.
