Item Description

We fell head over heels for this gorgeous 1700s porcelain small plate/deep saucer. This extremely rare porcelain saucer was made in Germany circa 1770 by the Hochst porcelain factory, one of Germany’s best porcelain manufacturers. This is an exquisite piece that is perfect for anyone with a passion for rare and early ceramics, or who like us, loves birds.

The saucer features a hand painted scene of a pair of Turtle Doves, notice the nest with eggs behind them. The saucer also features rich gilt decoration to the rim and inside rim. The base of the very deep saucer features an inscribed mark and the Hochst manufactures mark in blue.

Measuring: Diameter 4 ¼ inch (11 cm) by height 1 1/8 inch (2.5 cm). Shown in our last images with an antique Meissen cup with birds, sold individually.

Condition: Light surface wear commensurate with age. Minor indentation to saucer face at 12 o clock, above the bush which was cleverly disguised by the painter at the factory by applying a dot of gilt over it to resemble a little flying insect (a common practice in porcelain factories at this time).
