RARE Antique Dragee Box Candy Box Napoleon and Soldier Circa 1810
Item Description
A precious sweet or candy box (boite a dragees). This circa 1810 to 1815 small, rectangular pressed card box with its original old bubbled glass lid contains an engraving of Napoleon walking past a snoozing hussar soldier. Very rare indeed to find Napoleon on such a box.
This sweet little box once held fancy confectionery. It was considered a real treat to visit your local chocolatier and hand select sweet delights to place in your individually chosen box. The real pleasure was then unveiling this highly decorative candy box to both friends and visitors; the surprise when they saw the gorgeous outer box and the inner confections that lay within!!
This charming little box that is the perfect addition to your candy box or Napoleon collection...
Please see our other early 19th century dragee boxes, we have been very fortunate to purchase a collection from a well loved English collector's estate. Some are very special examples indeed.
