Rare Dudson English Porcelain Poodle Dog And Puppies Circa 1845

This is a very endearing English porcelain figure of a mother and her two puppies manufactured by James Dudson. This rare and decorative porcelain figure was produced in England during the 19th century, circa 1845. The figure is modelled as seated poodle with its two sleeping puppies on a Rocco style base. The poodle features thin applications of porcelain that have been expertly applied to give the impression of fur.

This is a charming figure; we have only seen one other example which is listed in the reference book below. This is the perfect item for anyone who loves Staffordshire figures, in particular dogs!

Measuring: Width 4 7/8 inch (12.5 cm) by height 5 inch (12.5 cm). Depth 3 ½ inch (9 cm).

Condition: Third Puppy figure missing from front of base which has then been restored. The entire grouping has slightly discoloured with age. Hairline to underside of base which runs vertically up to rear dog foot. Hairline to opposite side of base, hairline to base near dogs paw, hairlines to paws. Manufacturing fault to underside of base. All perfectly strong and stable.
