18th Century Georgian Toleware Snuff Box Honesty Policy Folk Art C 1790

This utterly charming little toleware snuff box was produced in England during the 18th century, circa 1790. The snuff box features hand enamelled decoration; the text to the lid is in old English saying ‘Honefty is the beft policy’. The tin features a simple lift off lid to reveal the inner compartment where one would store their snuff. The lid opens and closes tightly and is in full working condition. Inside two removable paper linings, one with an 1811 watermark. This is a wonderful little item, a rare survivor from the 18th century. We can’t help imagine who has owned this piece in its 220 year plus history.

Measuring: Width 3.25 inch (8.3 cm) by height 5/8 inch (1.5 cm). Depth 2 3/8 inch (6 cm).
