Item Description
This is our final offering to share with you from this beautiful trio of 18th century miniature engravings on silk. This is the smallest one and depicts a portrait of Lady Catherine Powlett (1766 to 1807).She was the daughter of His Grace Harry Powlett, 6th Duke of Bolton, and Katherine Lowther. Catherine married William Henry Vane, 3rd Earl of Darlington (subsequently 1st Duke of Cleveland). Well known portraits of her, like ours, depict her as a young teenage girl before her entering marriage into the Vane family. Our portrait is after Richard Cosway's portrait of Lady Powell. See The British Museum Museum number 1859,0806.1262 for the same engraved portrait on paper printed and published by Charles White. She ws also painted by Joshua Reynolds and apparently never showed any vanity, although she was exceedingly beautiful.
Our engraving on silk is housed behind glass in its original gilt frame. We see a young teenage Catherine holding a dove with piled curled hair with flowers tucked in the top of her hair.
Size: Frame Height 6 inch (15 cm) by Width 4 3/4 inch (12 cm)
Condition: The printed silk and frame are in very good condition for its 240 years.
This really is a very endearing portrait, we 100% guarantee that you will love it..
