18th Century Silk Apron Fragment C 1730 AF
Item Description
A very sweet morceaux of a once larger garment. The original garment would have been an apron, or possibly even a silk pocket. The plain woven silk ground in a pale blue with just the one embroidered motif of a small Strawberry fruit and leaf. This motif worked in couched silk thread and the fruit body worked in silver file (a white silk core with flattened metal strip wrapped around it). You can still see the top gathering band and the remains of the inner tie of the pocket or apron.
Size: 9.5 inch tall by 6 inch at its widest point.
Condition: Ancient and fragile/stiff with age. Melting to the silk along the top, including two holes/tears. General age soiling along the top and a few light marks to the blue silk ground. The teeny 1 1/8" motif is in fine condition and could be framed by itself for a special dolls house.
