18th Century Silk Embroidery Panel Silk Quilted Ground C 1740
Item Description
We are delighted to offer our antique textile lovers this stunning little 1700s survivor. This 18th century antique embroidery is a fragment from a larger silk quilted coverlet. The open floral spray depicting five petalled flowers and leaves in silk thread wrought upon a quilted silk ground (frame unopened). You can easily imagine a 1700s lady's bed draped in this floral finery. Probably with matching bed canopy, bed hangings/drapes. These summer flowers a cheery uplifting sight on cold winters evenings.
Later salvaged and framed in this substantial antique oak frame and behind glass.
The small size allowing it to be hung on your wall, or displayed on your shelf. A very beautiful example of 1700s English embroidery.
Size: Frame 6 1/2 inch (16.5 cm) square.
Condition: This is a genuine 1700s silk textile it does have signs of its age. Fading to the silk threads to this now pale lemon and pale apricot colour. Some perishing to the quilted silk ground.
