Item Description

This classical, elegant porcelain plate was produced by the New Hall porcelain company in England and dates to the early 19th century, circa 1815. The plate features a classical Adam Buck bat printed pattern depicting a devoted mother with her child sitting for a portrait. We adore the Empire dress of the Madame Juliette Recamier looking lady artist. Adam Buck (b 1759–d 1833) was a celebrated Irish neo-classical portraitist, miniature painter and engraver.

The hand painted polychrome decoration is superb and captures one's heart. The scene is absolutely timeless and instantly captures the all-encompassing, pure and eternal love that a mother feels for her child. The pattern number is ‘224’, we love the combination of the white, black and hand painted coloring. One can easily see how Regency home owners adored this pattern back in 1815.

This plate would have been part of a large dinner service of matching porcelain tableware. The design was bat printed in a stippled effect onto the surface and then the polychrome coloring and gilding was hand applied. As is common with such large services there are no makers marks on the cup and saucers.

Measuring: Diameter 7 7/8 inch (20 cm).

Condition: Good. Lovely bright gilding, free from chips, cracks or repairs.
