19th Century Folk Art Oil Painting Farmyard Scene Chickens Rooster Hens Farmhouse C 1870

We were instantly attracted to this small sized, unframed Victoria oil on canvas painting. This small original oil has a naive charm which will coordinate well with folk art antiques when on display.

This unsigned painting depicts a domestic farmyard scene of a rooster and hens scratching about in their yard. At the right side we see a thatched roof open barn with large wooden supporting columns, maybe a threshing barn. To the left we see again fencing with crops behind. The road to the farm leads off to further farm buildings in the distance.

Size: 8 inch tall by 11 inch wide by 0.5 inch (20 cm by 28 cm by 2 cm).

Condition: Good and stable with evidence of its vast age. You can clearly see cracklure to the oil paint and occasional old touch ups. Flaked paint around the oil on board edges. It has had additional nails added at some point to secure it to its original stretcher.

A wonderful little farmstead painting full of charm and character. You can almost here those chickens clucking!
