19th Century Folk Art Painting Portrait Miniature Naïve School Circa 1810

This wonderfully original portrait miniature was produced in England during the early 19th century, circa 1800-1810. The watercolour portrait features a male sitter in three quarter view. This is a fantastic example of early folk art. The artist has painted the sitter’s face in tones of blue, with blue watercolour also being used for the back ground as well as the sitter’s tail-coat.

The artist was clearly very talented and experienced. The painting is on card or paper and is housed in its original frame. We find the remains of the original back paper verso complete with the original owners/artist inscription ‘reading aged 51.’

This is a fabulous portrait, completely original. The perfect portrait for anyone who loves all things primitive, folk art or naïve.

Measuring: Frame width 6.25 inch (16 cm) by height 6.75 inch (17 cm). Aperture width 3 1/8 inch (8 cm) by height 3.75 inch (9.5 cm).

Condition: Original, unopened by us and uncleaned.
