19th Century Georgian Reverse Print On Glass Flight Into Egypt 1823
Item Description
We just adore genuine Georgian reverse prints on glass. There is something about the way the old rippled glass catches the light that entices you under their spell. This is no exception especially because of its small size.
This delightful reverse painting on glass was printed in England in the year 1823. The engraving is titled ‘Flight Into Egypt.’ The reverse print features Joseph, Mary, and her new-born son Jesus fleeing Bethlehem on the road to Egypt. The print was printed and sold by J. Hinton in 1823 at 44 Wells Street, Oxford Street, London. The print was then applied to the reverse of a sheet of glass using layers of varnish then it was carefully removed with abrasion to leave an impression, it was then hand coloured from the reverse.
J. Hinton was a printer and publisher based in London who was active during the late 18th and early 19th century. The print is complete with original printer/publisher details which are partially obscured by the bottom of the frame. The print is housed in its original stained wood frame.
This is a decorative prints by a sought after printer and publisher. Please see our collection of 18th and 19th century art and antiques listed separately in our store.
