19th Century Pug Dog Figure Austrian Terracotta Glass Eyes C 1890

This charming terracotta figure of a pug dog originated from Austria during the 19th century, circa 1890. The hand painted pug is made from terracotta and has been expertly cold painted; this really is an incredible little figure as it perfectly captures the kind and sociable nature of these historic little pooches. . The little pug is complete with its original glass eyes; we love his orange collar! This is the perfect item for anyone who loves dogs, in particular pugs!

Did you know that the Pug breed of dog dates back to the 1500s!! They were brought from China to Europe being popular in Netherlands, and the House of Stuart in the United Kingdom had a soft spot for them too. In the 1800s it was Queen Victoria who became smitten with them, a passion that she passed on to other members of the royal household.
