19th Century Regency Miniature Portrait Silhouette of a Lady Bandeaux Hairstyle Circa 1813
Item Description
We could not resist this gorgeous Regency era miniature painted silhouette of lady in equally gorgeous unopened antique giltwood frame.
Dating from the 1813 period we see an attractive young lady in side profile. She wears her long hair piled hight in a bun with trailing ringlets to her forehead. The interesting fashion detail is the two bands of ribbon highlighted with gum Arabic. This is called a Bandeaux and was a very popular hair ornament for evening balls during the 1812 to 1815 period. The silhouette is well painted, her hair being our favourite detail.
Housed behind convex glass in a fancy giltwood frame.
Size: Frame Height 4 5/8 inch by width 2 3/4 inch (11.5 cm by 7.3 cm)
Condition: Silhouette good, frame a few very old losses to the tips of the carved flowers.
