19th Century Reverse Print On Glass Spring Mezzotint After Rosalba Carriera Circa 1820

This is a fantastic opportunity to own a SMALL Georgian reverse print on glass in its original frame. This wonderful reverse coloured print on glass was produced in England during the early 19th century, circa 1820. The print features a allegorical scene after a painting by Rosalba Carriera titled ‘Spring.’ ‘Spring’ which was one of four pieces in the Seasons series. The portrait features a personification of Spring with a young lady holding a bouquet of flowers.

Rosalba Carriera (b 1673 – d 1757) was an Italian Rococo painter. In her younger years, she specialized in portrait miniatures. Carriera would later become known for her pastel portraits, helping popularize the medium in eighteenth-century Europe. She is remembered as one of the most successful women artists of any era.

The hand-coloured print was published by Jean Simon, anglicized as John Simon (b abt. 1675 – d 1751) who was an English mezzotint engraver and print publisher of French Huguenot birth, particularly known for his portraits.

The print is housed in its original Biedermeier design frame. This is the perfect item for anyone who loves classical antiques and art. Please see two of the other matching seasons listed separately in our store.

Measuring: Frame width 7 inch (18 cm) by height 8 7/8 inch (22 cm). Aperture width 4 ½ inch (11.5 cm) by height 6 ¼ inch (16 cm).

Condition: Good. Light surface wear commensurate with age.
