19th Century Scissor Case and Scissors Gilt Tooled Red Leather Circa 1840 AF

This is a very beautiful English gilt tooled Calf Leather scissor case to add to your sewing tool collection. The case was made by the top quality maker Joseph Rodgers & Sons of Sheffield, Cutlers To Her Majesty. The blue velvet lined case contains two pairs of period scissors, one pair missing. The two pairs of 19th century steel scissors are not original to the case, originally it would have contained 3 pairs of Joseph Rodgers scissors. However, they are good quality Victorian replacements. The smaller pair of embroidery scissors made by a Paris maker initials A.T. The second larger pair of steel scissors having a makers motif of a tiny clock. Both pairs still cut well. The leather case retains its original gilt metal locking clasp, that still locks by sliding the teeny button up.

The case was made by the best British steel manufacturer of that day - Joseph Rodgers and Sons of Norfolk Street, Sheffield. As stated on the stamped interior, Rodgers were cutlers (steel makers) to her majesty, Queen Victoria (1837-1901). In fact the company went on to acquire further Royal Warrants during the reign of Victoria (1837-1901), Edward VII (1901-1910) and finally George V (1910-1936). The products made by Joseph Rodgers & Sons were sold from their Norfolk Street showrooms and by catalogue to the famous, and wealthy all over the world. These top quality British steel items were purchased by Kings, Queens, Princes, Sha's and Dukes spanning the globe.

Size: Case 6 inch tall (15.5 cm). Smallest scissors 3 1/8 inch tall (8cm), larger scissors 4 inch tall (10 cm).

Condition: Showing its age and that it has been well used. General surface wear to the red leather, we have not polished it. Wear to the gilt tooling. The case is a little squished, as you can tell from the lid that sits a little depressed. One pair of scissors missing.
