Adorable Georgian Engraving Child And Pull Toy Fly Wagon by James Godby Circa 1810

A stunning original Regency era artwork for your wall that we are not expecting to stay with us very long, as it is utterly charming.

This wonderful colored stipple engraving was produced in England during the early 19th century, circa 1810. The engraving was printed by James Godby. Godby was a London based printmaker who was active from 1790 – 1815. Our engraving features a small aristocratic child holding the string of his/her toy pull wagon. Stood at the entrance to their grand classical home, with an imposing stone pillar clad with vines; in the background we see a private lake with a private cove and large mountains to the distance.

This is a rare print with an ideal subject matter that works superbly well with other Georgian folk art items, see last images.

The text at the bottom of the paper reads ‘Godby Sculp. Fly Waggon.’ A Fly wagon was a light horse-drawn public passenger vehicle or delivery wagon. A covered, vehicle hired from a livery stable such as a single-horse pleasure carriage.

The print is housed behind glass in an attractive slim painted black wood frame.

Measuring: Frame width 9.5 inch (24 cm) by height 11 7/8 inch (30.5 cm). Aperture width 8.75 inch (22 cm) by height 11.25 inch (28.5 cm).

Condition: Minor age related darkening to outer edges of paper, which is a little less obvious in natural daylight (images taken under studio lights). The old paint on frame is slightly flaky in places, we have had the back re-taped as the old tape was deteriorated.
