Antique Cornish Church Painting Naïve Folk Art Oil on Canvas 1899

This is a fabulous example of English folk art!

This charming painting was painted in England in the year 1899. The Victorian oil painting is on canvas and depicts St Martin and St Meriadoc's Church, Camborne, Cornwall, England. The church is medieval, dating largely from the 15th century. The church was enlarged throughout the 19th century. Interestingly, Camborne was formerly one of the richest tin mining areas in the world and home to the Camborne School of Mines.

The canvas features the George Rowney & Co manufacturers back stamp. There were 3 grades of Rowney canvas, A, B and C, as you can see from the photo of the reverse, this was a B canvas. The canvas was produced during the 1890s in London.

This is the perfect item for anyone who loves all things original, naïve and folk art items in particular.

Measuring: Width 10 inch (25.5 cm) by height 12 inch (30.5 cm).

Condition: As shown in our images, there is some flaking and loss to the painted surface. There is an old canvas repair to the section of the right tree.
