Antique Documentary Floral Pearlware Mug Sarah Ann Godwin Ludwell Village Wiltshire England 1849

This unique pearlware mug was made in England during the 19th century, in the year 1849. This very pretty, early Victorian mug features the hand painted text reading ‘Sarah Ann Godwin, Ludwell. 1849.’

The mug also features hand painted enamel floral sprays to each side of the mug with bands of pink and blue glazed detailing to the base of the mug and to the interior rim. We love the featured detailing to the handle where it joins the body.

Ludwell is a small village in south Wiltshire, England, approximately 3 miles (5 km) east of the Dorset town of Shaftesbury. Mugs such as these were produced for special events such as marriages or christenings. The mug was not produced in the village but in the county of Staffordshire or perhaps the Northeast of England.

Measuring: Width including handle 4 3/8 inch (11 cm) by height 3 ¼ inch (8 cm).

Condition: Perfectly stable ‘y’ shape hairline to left edge rim and a minor hairline to right edge rim.
