Oh we could not resist this little cutie. Dating to the 1890 period, and likely made in France....this is a little gem to add to your sewing, or purse/handbag collection...what's not to love???
This is a small sewing case, necessaire with contents. Designed as a handbag with steel suspension chains and circular bangle for wrist suspension. The exterior covered in red silk plush velvet with centre steel clasp. The clasp has an unusual closing mechanism, it pulls open to reveal the brass lug of the top flap, which sits on a teeny brass knob. Once opened the integral compartments includes three needles inside three tiny skeins of silk. one brass thimble and two empty paper needle packets. Its lined with red silk, and blue card.
Size when closed: Height 2 1/8 inch by width 3 1/8 inch by depth1 1/8 inch (5 cm by 8 cm by 3 cm), size/drop including handle 5 inch (13.5 cm). Inner diameter of circular bangle 2 1/8 inch (5.5 cm)
Condition: Very nice condition, opens and closes well. Please note that one thimble is missing.
