These early hand painted card needlecases are becoming harder and harder to find. So we were delighted to discover this one for you.
Hand made in the 1830s period here in England. This little sewing notion is a tiny work of art. We see two card leaves with punched border. An octagonal cartouche to the centre of each front and rear face. One card panel depicts a hand painted still life scene of plum, peach and raspberries. The back panel depicts an apple, pear and blueberries. The needlebook is hinged via its original thread crimson silk ribbon tied in a bow. Open the needlecase to reveal the matching crimson silk taffeta lining. and original wool leaves for needle storage.
Size: 3 1/4 inch high by 2 1/4 inch wide (8.5 cm by 5.5 cm)
Condition: Very good and clean, never used. Gentle exterior abrasion to the rear apple and pear scene.
