Item Description
We are delighted to have discovered for you this wonderful early Victorian era layette pincushion. Pincushions that were decorated with words and designs made from handmade pins were very popular gifts for pregnant and new mothers during the 18th and 19th centuries. Our example was wrought in England during the 19th century, circa 1850. The pin cushion is produced on cream jaquard silk with beige machine lace detailing to the corners and edges. To the top are the pinned words 'Welcome Sweet Babe'.
This is the perfect item for anyone who loves sewing.
Measuring: Width 6 ¾ inch (17.5 cm) by height 2 ¼ inch (6 cm). Depth 4 inch (10 cm).
Condition: Lightest of surface wear commensurate with age.
