Antique Miniature Gilt Bronze & Marble Paper Weight Bronze Dore Cassolette Napoleon III C 1850

A gorgeous little offering from the mid 19th Century. Oh my goodness wouldn't this make an exceptional table centrepiece for an larger scale dolls house!!!

French in origin this tiny little cast gilt bronze figure is an absolute delight. Dating from the Napoleon III period, circa 1850, it reflects the neo-classical taste for figures from antiquity that was so popular in French decorative arts during the 18th and 19th centuries. We see a tiny classical figure with helmet, sword and shield sat on top of a most decorative twin handled lidded cassolette, or incense/potpourri holder (the lid does not open and never has). The cassolette sits upon its original green marble/serpentine base. This little bronze dore beauty was originally created to be a paper weight to sit on a luxury French desk.

Size: 3 3/4 inch tall by 2 1/4 inch wide by 1 1/2 inch deep (9.5 cm by 5.7 cm by 3.7 cm)

Condition: Very good, minor age related dulling to the gilt bronze. Minor flea nibbles to base corners.
