Antique Nursery Ware Plate 1820s English Pearlware Blue & White Children's Scene

This rare and decorative child’s nursery ware plate was produced in England during the 19th century, circa 1820. The plate features a blue and white transfer printed design depicting children playing in the countryside. The children can be seen bouncing a ball, flying a kite and hoop rolling. Hoop rolling was a popular child’s game during the first half of the 19th century.

The scene is titled ‘Amusement’ and features a poem below:

‘When first the ball, or hoop, or kite, with speechless rapture pleased my sight. What was it kindled such delight. My Children.’

The plate also features the most wonderful hand decorated raised floral border. Notice also the faint impressed crown manufactures mark to the base. This is a fabulous little plate that is perfect for anyone with children, anyone who loves early nursery ware.

Measuring: Diameter 6 inch (15 cm).

Condition: Very good. Some letters of the word 'Children' bottom right have not transferred across completely during the printing.
