Antique P & P Gally Print Persuasion Circa 1815 English Folk Art Cottage Print

This wonderful hand coloured engraving is titled ‘Persuasion’ and was printed in England during the 19th century, circa 1815. This all original Regency period print depicts a pair of young lovers sat on a bench overlooking rolling fields of sheep. The male admirer is likely declaring his undying love for his female companion through the writing of a love poem - see the letter in her hand. We adore the young fellow's most fashionable hair style, and the large pot of flowers in front of his lady friend.

The print was printed and sold by ‘P and P Gally.’ P and P Gally was a printer and publisher printer based in London who was active during the late 18th and early 19th century. Such charmingly naïve little prints would have hung on the interior walls of everyday folk, hence their common name Cottage Prints, sometimes called Nursery prints.

The engraving is housed behind old glass in its original wood frame. These 200 year old engravings are becoming hard to find! Please see last image for some of our other early prints and artworks.

Measuring: Frame width 6 7/8 inch (17.5 cm) by height 4 7/8 inch (12 cm) Aperture width 5 ½ inch (14.5 cm) by height 3 ½ inch (9 cm).

Condition: Minor areas of loss to bottom right corner of paper, occasional area of staining. Tear to centre of paper which is perfectly stable. Light surface wear to frame. All commensurate with age.
