Item Description

We are delighted to offer this very, handsome, very elegant bust of John Milton impressed COPELAND to the rear. Dating to the 1847 period, this small two sectional bust depicts one of Britain's most well known poets John Milton 1608-1674. His most famous, most epic poem was of course Paradise Lost.

This small bust was beautifully made in white Parian by the English porcelain manufacturer Messrs W.T.Copeland  & Sons of Stoke. Manufacturers of earthenware's, Parian and fine porcelain. It comes complete with its original Parian socle base.

Parian porcelain was a very fine, unglazed (biscuit) porcelain developed in the 19th century to mimic carved marble. It was mainly used for statuary. The name Parian derived from the word Paros, the Greek island famous for its white marble.

Size: 7 1/4 inch tall (18.5 cm).

Condition: Very good and sound apart from a small, stable, very old hairline under his left arm.

An absolutely timeless early Victorian bust that looks sensational when displayed on a shelf, or in a bathroom maybe surrounded by fluffy white towels and luxury bars of soap.
